Hi, I have a new Blackberry phone, can anyone tell me if I transfer all my data to my new BB from my old BB will my text messages be lost. I contacted an O2 Guru online today and they said I would lose my messages but in the BB Desktop Manager the texts are backed up. Unfortunately I lost connection with the O2 Guru and they didn't come back so I didn't get a definitive answer.

In addition to the advice already given, you can also use Blackberry Protect to back up your old handset wirelessly and use BB Protect to download all that backed up information to your new handset. The one proviso is that you must be on OS 7.1 or below to do this, BB10 does not allow this via BB Protect. When you start up your new handset you will be prompted to enter your Blackberry ID during setup.

BlackBerry protect isn't as efficient at restoring a backup as desktop manager is so shouldn't be relied on. I've heard too many horror stories from people thinking they don't need to use DM because they have Protect installed...and then find it doesn't restore something they need!

Protect doesn't back up everything, just contacts, sms, wifi connections and a couple of other things. It doesn't do any media content. I used it when moving from a 9300 to a 9810 and it worked flawlessly.
