Hi, I have a new Blackberry phone, can anyone tell me if I transfer all my data to my new BB from my old BB will my text messages be lost. I contacted an O2 Guru online today and they said I would lose my messages but in the BB Desktop Manager the texts are backed up. Unfortunately I lost connection with the O2 Guru and they didn't come back so I didn't get a definitive answer.

If you have downloaded Desktop Manager, connected your old phone and then allowed the software to complete a backup then you are good to go.

Remove the SIM and memory card from your old phone and put them into the 9900. Once the phone has powered up, connect the 9900 to your laptop/PC and do a restore from the last backup you took from your old phone and all of your texts, etc should re-appear.

I did a selective restore from my 9700 when I got my 9900 so only my texts and emails were copied over but don't try that unless you know what you're doing....a full restore is possibly best for you!

Your 9900 will ask for your BBID when you first try to access BBM or Blackberry World. Its just the same email address and password you are using for these on your old phone. The way BBID works now is that it will (or should) copy all your contacts over in BBM but you will lose any conversations you had in it.

As I said in your other topic, your text messages are stored on your phone and will be copied to your new phone with a backup and then a restore onto your new one.

Everything backed up to BBDM will be transferred to the new phone, unless it's a Z10, in which case I don't know as I don't have one, but all my previous phones 9700, 9300, 9900 etc have transferred everything.

yep, anything backed up through Desktop Manager, including texts, will be copied over to your new phone. Just make sure you also use the same BlackBerry ID on both phones so you dont lose BBM contacts.

However as stated, I'm not sure about upgrading to the Z10. I was happy enough to lose my texts, etc on my 9900 when I upgraded so started fresh with the Z10.

Just make sure all your photos, videos, etc are saved to your memory card as well.

Hi, no it isn't a Z10 it is a Bold 9900 (old phone is a Torch 9800).  I have a BB ID on the old phone but am not sure how you add the same BB ID to the new phone (having never done this before) in fact I haven't got a clue how you do the whole process, I was going to take my laptop phones etc to an O2 Guru in my local shop for them to do it:smileyhappy: also I have another post on here which I about to reply to with a problem with my texts, a message keeps coming up saying my text messages are full, since then I unticked the box next to 'keep messages on SIM' so I assume my messages are now being saved on my media card? I have not had that message since I have done this.  Assuming my texts are now being saved to my media card does that mean that they will be transferred - also will my BBMs be transferred - sorry lots of questions here but I am quite a novice.

Just download Blackberry Desktop Manager (google it) and back up your old phone. Then connect your new phone and restore it choosing the backup you made. It's that simple and everything on the phone will transfer across. Anything on your SD card won't be touched but you just put your SD card into the new phone and it will read everything off it.

Hi, I have already downloaded BB Desktop Manager and backed everything up off the phone.  So do I then take the SIM card and Media cards out of the old phone and put in the new phone before I connect the new phone? also, when does the BB ID come into this? and how do I transfer the BB ID on to the new phone - is there any step by step diagrams anywhere to do this - I don't want to get it wrong.  Also will my BB Messages be transferred? and are my text messages now on my media card and if so will they also be transferred (see my last post).
