Pay-as-you-go Sim card in an Iphone???

I have an O2 Pay-as-you-go card and I'm using it with my LG viewty phone.
My daughter has sent me her Iphone 3G phone since she has a new Iphone 4.
The Iphone3 phone is still locked to another company and it is not O2.
1. Will my O2 pay-as-you-go card work in her Iphone 3 if I was to get her Iphone unlocked?
2. Can I take her phone into my local O2 store and get it unlocked since I use O2's pay as you go card?

I would like to be able to continue using the O2 Pay as you go card but also want to use my daughter's Iphone which is nicer than my old LG phone.
Thank you

The iPhone needs to be unlocked by the network that it is locked to o2 can only unlock o2 iPhones but when unlocked yes your payg sim will work you need to change the apn's see my links just watch out for it's data usage.

Re: O2 Pay-as-you-go Sim card in an unlocked Iphone ???

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post.
What does change the apn's mean? I'm really not up with modern technology.
The phone my daughter sent to me is from a Canadian provider called Rogers. Daughter says that Rogers/ O2 both are connected. If in Canada O2 would use roaming from Rogers. She thought that since I use O2, I could use her old phone.
So there is no way that her Iphone 3G could be used by me in the UK?

Re: Pay-as-you-go Sim card in an Iphone???

correct you would need to send back to canada and get your daughter to unlock http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 says rogers unlock them. $50 fee from a search
Then when you get it back as you are on payg the 3 apn's need changing.
Apn's are how mobiles onnect to the internet mms etc.
