Nokia Lumia 920

Any new news on the Nokia Lumia 920 becoming available on O2?

The EE exclusivety finishes today (31st December 2012) and as of yet there has been no definitive answer from any of the other networks, other than the odd rumour on a tech site. There is no sign of the phone on the Coming soon section of the shop either.

Surely you want to sell the WP8 flagship phone?

Spoke with disconnections team myself, they confirmed that O2 have no plans to stock this mobile. The woman was nice, apologetic and seemed disappointed.

I'm more likely to beleve your experience with disconnections team. As such, I too have now left O2. I placed my order with Orange this morning (my only other alternative in my area) and my Lumia 920 will be with by before midday tomorrow. This is a very sad day for me. I love O2, their service and support are usually very good.. but not stocking this phone is like other retailers not stocking an iPhone. It will hurt them bad.

As this will be my last post, I just want to say thank you to the community for all your help, and your efforts in trying to keep us all together. It's just a shame O2 didn't feel the same. So now I just have to say..

Goodbye O2.

It looks pretty certain that O2 are missing the 920, which follows on from them missing the 900 as well. They look like only doing the 6,7,8 series.

Does anyone know why they are not offering Nokia's flagship handsets?

They are for;

HTC (Andorid and WP8)

Apple (obviously)

Blackberry

Samsung

Sony

Nope. O2 makes business decisions about whether they stock certain handsets / models. From time to time they choose not to.

They didnt stock the following things when people expected them to do so:

1) iPad.
2) BlackBerry Playbook
3) Nokia 900
4) Now the Nokia 920.

Some decisions are purely based on economics - ie is it too expensive to subsidise vs sale cost (iPad)

Some decisions are based on whether, after testing it thoroughly, they think its a dud. (Playbook was widely thought to be a dud upon testing)

They don't generally say that they're not going to stock a phone, because then they get the why questions. The reason why they don't want the why questions is because then they have to give an answer and they don't want to alienate manufacturers by publicly slating their products or prices.

So they usually keep schtum or say nothing about it. Which seems to be the case with the 920.

Naturally you get rumours/gossip about why but nothing official.

Thanks for that.

OK, i understand that they don't want to alienate certain manufactrers but its a shame that in the process of tip toeing around the manufacturers they manage to alineate customers

Cookie think about it this way:

You're in charge of deciding whether X new phone gets taken up by the network.

Its been tested, but there are concerns about whether it will be problematic (ie always breaking down, needing repaired, poor user experience). You also don't think its worth the asking price the manufacturer wants to charge you for the handsets.

You know there are people interested in it, and you think it will sell well, but you won't make much money from the sales and you reckon you'll get lots of after-sales calls about the poor reliability, which is a kind of "hidden cost" in that you know it will cost the network money.

You think that if you don't stock it, you'll dissapoint 1000 customers, all of whom might leave because you chose not to stock it. You don't want to go public about why you're not stocking it, because manufacturers remember things like that and if the manufacturer comes up with an amazing phone that will sell millions, they might not let you have it because you badmouthed their phone.

So do you a) stock it anyway, b) choose not to stock it, and not say why or c) choose not to stock it and come out publicly about why?

I know which one I'd do.

Thanks again, i can see the predicament but you can also see it from a customers point of view which of course is what i am, so consider this as customer feedback. I am not saying that the point you make is ridiculous.

What i am saying however is that constantly being pointed to the "Coming Soon" page long after a handset is made available on other networks is misleading and implies that the phone will at some point in the future become available.

I can fully understand that O2 may feel they are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to dissapointing one party in some way or another.

My take on it now is that O2 have always known that they would not stock the device for whatever reason but continue to point those who are interested in the handset to the 'Coming Soon' page whilst knowing full well that our wait would be fruitless. I would have been much more satisfied if O2 had said "sorry we are not stocking the device" rather than what has happened and now have to leave feeling as if we have been taken for a fool.

Take for example you explaining this to me. I now feel much less pissed off having had some sort of an answer given rather than being told to keep an eye on the website. So again, i thank you for being frank.

Good luck everyone with the 920, I get where you are coming from but be advised that I suspect I know why O2 are not stocking it and that as Pablo suggested but not confirmed the phone is damn right rubbish.

My Colleague on EE has had his phone replaced 4 times in a month. When we was looking online at solutions to the problem it seems plagued with issues worldwide.

I truly hope none of you have any problems. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
