I can't get my new L620 to connect to the internet. I have requested settings by text several times. The phone connects to my BT router/hub either using the WAP connection or the openzone but doesn't get beyond this.

I looked in settings-phone update. Update status says phone is up to date. Last checked 39 mins ago. Phone says Software Windows Phone 8.0 in settings-about.

Should that information be displayed somewhere? If the info in Settings-about is wrong how can I get the software updated if it is not connecting? The phone was delivered yesterday. It has check for updates automatically enabled if my data settings allow it checked in the Settings-phone update option but that doesn't help at the present.

I just checked the link you suggested. It shows how to update the software using the wifi. That doesn't help at the moment as I can't connect. To update it via any other method is clearly going to be more difficult. Should I really have to be doing this with a brand new phone?

OK found the version number. OS version 8.0.10328.78
Firmware revision number 3046.0000.1329.2004
Doesn't mention Amber but the revision number checks out with your latest numbers.
So can we assume the software is current?

OK I'll try to set one up. I'm not optimistic as it won't even show me the terms and conditions info. I really wanted to use my gmail account for emails and I thought this would do it. I don't have hotmail, MSM or Xbox accounts. Should I set one up separately then go back to the phone and use that?

It's worth a try... You don't have to use it but the phone "might" need it. You can still use your GMail account for emails....
The way I did it was to set up an outlook.com account using my gmail email adress.
