Need to unlock phone

Anonymous
Not applicable

I applied online and got an email from O2 which said I need to put in the non-allowed SIM and then key in the code.

But I want to get the phone unlocked before I next go abroad, so I went on a live chat last night, where I he told me yes, he had unlocked my phone and I would get a confirmation email.  I asked whether this meant the phone would then be unlocked, and no further action was required by me, and he said yes and the email would confirm that.

However, the email was exactly the same as the last one.

How can I get my phone unlocked before I need to insert a foreign SIM?

Just insert the code when you put a foreign sim in.
You have to put a non o2 sim in at some point to complete the process.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

You need to do exactly as the email. You need a code, it can't be remotely unlocked despite what live chat say. Have you got the code? If so put another network sim in the phone and enter the code (not giffgaff or tesco)

OK, so despite what Live Chat said, it can't be unlocked before I insert a foreign SIM?  If so, I'll have to borrow one some time.  I take it the code doesn't time-expire at all?

NB I only have the word of the seller that it's locked, how can I check that it is?

Put another network's sim in. If it doesn't work, it's locked.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

As you have been given an unlock code, you can safely assume it's locked.
Technically, the phone is unlocked now you have a code, but it's just the unlock process that isn't complete.

The code is a unique code that is generated from your IMEI number and will never expire.

OK, thanks, I'll just have to mug somebody (who also has a nano SIM and is on a different network) and get the job done before I next travel outside Europe.

You can get free payg sim cards off the other networks websites.
Just make sure it's Voda, EE or Three
