Microsoft has agreed a deal to buy Nokia's mobile phone business for 5.4bn euros ($7.2bn; £4.6bn).

Nokia will also license its patents and mapping services to Microsoft. Nokia shares jumped 45% on news of the deal.

The purchase is set to be completed in early 2014, when about 32,000 Nokia employees will transfer to Microsoft.

Cool !

People will still complain, especially all those stupid people who hate Microsoft because of Xbox etc.

Well they did bow down on the Xbox one restrictions, so perhaps they now listen more to the end user.

Thanks for posting this Patonthenet.

Do you use a Nokia now? That's quite a share jump!

Have always had a Nokia ever since the 3200 slight_smile and always liked the symbian system. Still have the old phones, every one of them, and all still working.

However after the 5800 Xpress Music, switched to a Nokia Lumia 800, then the 820 and now the Lumia 925. Looking forward to buying the 1020 too slight_smile So the windows phone is my preference now, and its latest Amber update brought some great new features.

@Richard_Allen

Have had the Xbox live family pack free for the last 5 months, while its set to auto pay its renewal, so far they haven't taken the money. Microsoft Help, tell me you cant buy the Family Pack any more, but those who have it will continue.. For how long I don't know.

Lumia Phones, Windows 8 PC, Xbox, all linked and working great, everything backed up to

My last Nokia was the n900 but I lost faith as Nokia kept dropping support for their software.

I loved the 3510i slight_smile

How do you think Nokia have done adapting to the smartphone age? I personally have loved some of the recent designs and the user interface is great too.

My last Nokia was the N95 about 5 years ago, before I told 3 they could go jump and signed up with O2.

After that, I got the phone unlocked and gave it to my Sister in law.

I've seen a fair share of N8's fight floors, and win, such a tank of a phone.

Bah, forgot to be constructive.....

Great aquisition by MS, but they need to be agressive with their offerings, the Surface Pro is an amazing product but priced way out of the market and I really hope they shy away from doing it with future mobile devices.
