I've been in Milan, Italy for a week now. The first 3 days I used O2 travel was fine, but miday through the 3rd day I recieved a text "Using the web outside Europe costs £6/mb. We don't charge you more than £40 on your current bill and you can use up to 50MB".

I used chat to talk to the helpdesk and they said it was an error they had had and to ignore it.

The next day I get multiple sms warning me about my data usage and then I get one saying I had hit the 50MB limited and had to pay £120 for a further 200MB".

Over the last 48 hours I've had multiple chat sessions, all claiming a reset would help and the last one we left it at having to wait for the final bill to "prove" I am in Italy!

The whole thing has been frustrating as I am suddenly without data and held to randsome to pay £120 for something that should be costing me £1.66

Who knew that Italy was no longer part of Europe!!!

Hi @xma1e_

Are you still in Italy now? You really need to ring CS and speak to someone asap (not live chat)  If you never moved out of Italy then an error has occurred.. I would not be waiting for a bill to arrive ...why should you?

The free number to call from abroad is +443448090202 (contract) +44 7860 980 202 PAYG Int rates apply

Thank's everyone. I will do that in the morning. As I fly back tomorrow.

Chat has been fustrating to use and I didn't know there was a free number I could call. I will do that first thing after I pack.

I have plenty of proof that I've been here for the full week, the error is definatly on their part. Plus on my online bill I was still charged for O2 travel yesterday which is a full day after the first 50mb sms.

Just as a matter of interest, did you have network selection on auto? Did you notice the network provider change at any time?

There doesn't appear to be a change... Even Greece remains a member despite it being sold on eBay previously.

Sim is set to automatic. I'm not sure if it as changed. I have been in central Milan the whole time traveling about 5 miles from Milan Central to Duomo each day so not large distances.

Also on checking my recent charges. I see I was billed O2 Travel from the 17th (Day I got the first "out of europe" sms and yesterday 18th when the service stopped.

Also have recieved several calls those days and they show on the recent charges as "ITA" for the country.

Definitely a system error then as it would have to be a ridiculously strong signal from outside Europe to override the Italian networks. Hopefully they will see sense and refund the charges when you call them.
