Huawei E5220 settings

Anonymous
Not applicable
Visiting UK with my Huawei E5220 (unlocked, bought in NZ) and bought a payandgo data sim from O2 to run our machines (Windows 8.1 tablets) -- but can't get the Huawei to connect properly with O2. I changed the profile to settings I found online (and there seem to be a number of different suggestions) but none work -- just reports wrong profile; it is showing up on wifi, but only "limited connection". Can anyone out there help me on the correct settings? Thanks.

Hi

Usually when you insert an O2 card the settings should be sent to it. For you to save and then re boot the device.

Here is one I found http://www.3grouterstore.co.uk/3G/O2.html

If you get stuck you could ring O2 Customer Services For help. http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

hi @Anonymous ,

So...where to start...first I'm going to set you expectations.... O2 don't officially support hot spots and some hot spots will not allow you to change the settings, they will revert back to the pre set settings.

Now, having said that, we have nothing to loose, so lets give it a try ....As O2 don't sell that device, I have no menus for it, so I'll be using the ones for a Huawei Tablet , hoping the menus are similar.

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap More
  3. Tap Mobile networks
  4. Tap Access Point Names
  5. Press the Menu (3 dots) key
  6. Tap New APN
  7. Tap Name then tap the text box and enter O2 Pay & Go Mobile Broadband then tap OK
  8. Tap APN then tap the text box and enter m-bb.o2.co.uk then tap OK
  9. Skip past Proxy as this is preset blank
  10. Skip past Port as this is preset blank
  11. Tap Username then tap the text box and enter o2bb then tap OK
  12. Tap Password then tap the text box and enter password then tap OK
  13. Skip past Server, MMSC, MMS proxy, MMS port, MMS protocol
  14. Tap MCC then tap the text box and enter 234 then tap OK
  15. Tap MNC then tap the text box and enter 10 then tap OK
  16. Tap Authentication type and tap PAP
  17. Tap APN type and enter default, supl
  18. Tap APN Protocol and select Ipv4
  19. Press the Menu key
  20. Tap Save
  21. Press the Back key

Now, cross your fingers....close your eyes and try to connect...:smileywink:

Thanks, rosadosc, but the settings available on the E5220 are much more limited, just APN, username and password--I tried the appropriate bits of your suggestion, but nogo I fear. I guess I'll go to an O2 shop tomorrow and buy a dongle or some such to put my sim in.  Best laid plans, eh?
