That's a standard Note 3 socket which has changed from the previous notes and Samsung phones.
Many, Many thanks, as you will have guessed I am not tech savvy.
I love my Samsung Note 3, my sister has the HTC and loves that too, so on the original thread question, can't offer any help. I can say, I have had i-phones for years now, and the Samsung is a clear winner.
Again, Many thanks.

That strange connection is USB 3.0 it gives you much quicker data transfer and charging times like mi5 has said you can plug any normal micro USB accessory car charger etc into the port on the right you don't have to use both
Many, Many thanks too, proof that you can always learn something new as a 'senior surfer'

USB 3 hubs have a higher power output than USB 2. It's up to 900mA if I recall correctly., so it's almost like using a power adaptor.
Just looked at the power rating on the Samsung website.
Micro USB 3.0 (5.3V, 2A) Connector
Although it says MTP mode only, which means it will need to be connected to a computer device to get the full whack.

Yes it's just for file transfer, no effect on charging times but the Note 3 charger is rated at 2a so will charge quicker than the older 1a ones.....

I wonder though, because my desktop motherboard has USB 3 hubs which support some sort of power boost for external devices. At the moment I am only use one USB 3 header connection so maybe something to consider in the future.
