To use any apps that require data and for email you need a BB tariff and bolton. If you only want internet you can just use Dolphin browser and WiFi.
You will need to speak to CS http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus if you want to switch and pay for the BB bolton until you can upgrade or just buy a cheap phone elsewhere and carry on as you are now.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

If you are going to use the BB for any length of time then it makes sense to get the bolt on in order to utilise the phone to it's full extent. If it's just to use in the interim until you get a new phone then do as MI5 suggests.
