Blackberry bolt-on doesn't work with other phones why is that?

My question is why doesn't a blackberry bolt on or iphone bolt on let you use the Internet on other smart phones such as android or vice versa with the normal smart phone data bolt on?

Hi Davidemmy2.

A Blackberry bolton needs to be able to offer specific functions such as BBM and Email services whiich are managed by RIM (the company behind Blackberry), to allow them to recognise that an O2 customer is using a Blackberry you must have the BB Bolton.

iPhone's have features such as Visual Voicemail, Hotspot Tethering etc - this is network and device specific, so in order for O2 to offer these features you must opt for the iPhone data bolt on.

The rest just require the standard data bolt on.
