question: audio books on mobile .....

Anonymous
Not applicable

..... can it be done?

I ask because, not being in the best of health, I cannot concentrate on reading a book, but do listen to the radio a lot ie BBCR4 Book at Bedtime, Book of the Week, plays, etc

I have a Nokia 515 phone, which some of you will consider a bit basic, but it suits my needs & so MI5 recommended it to me

thank you Cat

Hi Jane, you should be able to get audible books on the Kindle, otherwise you'll need to get them in mp3 format for the card in the phone.

You can always rip audiobook CDs in the same way as music wink

hi all

thank you for your input

I do have a Kindle, @aldaweb has been helping me, fancy you remembering Cleoriff

is that what you mean by an e-reader Toby?

it's the reading part which I have trouble with, I have an easy listening approach to audio (I do listen very much to BBCR4) & wheras reading is such a slog in book form & as I say I just can't concentrate anymore on reading

& I find a voice soothing &  it would be of value of listening to a book of my choice

thanks again

You just copy them to your SD card in the same way as you would for music. As long as they are in a format the phone is happy with you select them and listen to then in the same way as you would music files.
I'll have a look for some download links but I assume they will be big files? Not something I am into myself...

Whilst audio books are ablessing to visually impaired people or you just want the option to be able to listen with your eyesclosed unfortunately your options are limited on that particular phone. Mp 3 is the easiest way to go as others have said but probably much better suited to the Kindle.

Personally I prefer to read, I find myself distracted and missing words or sentences and find it difficult to concentrate depending on the book.

I haven't used an audio book on the kindle yet, but I read somewhere that with some books from Amazon you can listen or read and it syncs across formats which could be good. Some Kindle books can have the audiobook added for a little extra. I'm off to work soon so will check up later on.

OK Jane I've had a quick look and this is the Amazon page about the books which sync between reading and listening - http://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=5123320031

and you may see that the narration costs extra  which I guess is to be expected.

There are a few sites with free audiobooks such as http://www.openculture.com/freeaudiobooks but I don't know what the quality of narration is on those, but don't expect it to be as high as the Amazon ones.

we can take this to PM if you'd like to go into it deeper.
