I'm thinking of buying an iPhone 6 outright. I don't want to be tied into a contract for 24 months and don't want to be paying another £30 a month so buying from Apple seems to be sensible.

I currently have a 5S and and I'm trying to work out what I will be gaining if I upgrade to the 6. I've had a play with the phone and I prefer the size as it's that bit bigger than the 5S (the 6 Plus is way too big for me). I also like the idea of the bigger memory.

Any thoughts to help me decide one way or the other?

If you can buy sim free I would recommend it as it gives you the freedom to move networks should your circumstances change.

Or another option is to go on a refresh tariff then when you want to or when you have enough disposable income then you can pay off the device plan so the phone is outright yours & it is free to contract customers to get it unlocked after a period of time. Maybe @MI5 @ jonsie can confirm the timescale as I thought it was 6-12 months

The only possible issue I could see is that the cost of the handset on refresh is occasinally more than buying it sim free especially on iPhones for some reason.

@Anonymous that isn't always the case, I'm on a refresh tariff & the overall cost of the phone is at least £30 cheaper than sim free

I looked at the 16gb sim free at £539.@

Then at one of the Refresh Tariff options which showed the handset plan at £25 per month = £600.00 @

I've compared buying direct from Apple to the price of a Refresh tariff and from Apple a 64gb iPhone 6 is £619 and on Refresh its £720 so quite a bit of difference.
