Hey guys!

I wish you all a happy new year 🥳

Took a while off internet the last weeks..

I don't know if anybody heard of the fire here in Krefeld some minutes after new year started.

3 people sent chinese paper sky lanterns (which are forbidden here) and one started a fire in the zoo - the ape house burned down - with all the apes (30+) in it. Just 2 of them survived. Some neighbours reported they heard them screaming. Must be very cruel for them..

I did read about the awful fire. It was heartbreaking when I read the eye witness reports and saw the aftermath of the fire. A terrible tragedy and it's no wonder that most of the civilised world has banned those lanterns. I think it's only the Chinese who still think they are a good idea.

It's all over the news atm.

I think people care about it so much as the apes are so close to the human race.

One Gorilla lived there since 1975, he became 48 yo.

I can hardly bear to think about it @ComaChameleon .

They would have been locked in for the night with no means of escape. What a terrible tragic way to die.

It also brings to mind all the deaths of the wildlife in Australia, due to the raging forest fires. Also tragic and so upsetting. cry

It's heart-rending

I've seen a vid of a trained dog in Australia who can search and find koala bears under the dead leaves. It has protective clothing on it's paws and legs. It senses a koala then signals to its handler by 'flopping still'.
