There are two White Room Quizzes each week - one on Monday and one on Wednesday.

Each White Room Quiz will have eight questions - with two questions from four categories. 

 

The White Room Quiz is open to all members.

Those wishing to take part must pm me - @Mi-Amigo - with their answers between 12 noon today [Wednesday] and 11.59pm tomorrow [Thursday]

Over the weekend, I have selected eight questions - with questions from each of these cateories

Please note: there is no QI-style question in which the answer is not what most people think.

Q6 [WORDS - 2] What is heliology the study of ?

 

Q7 [MOVIES - 2] Who won an Oscar for his role as the Colonel in the movie

                             "The Bridge Over The River Kwai" ? 

 

Q8 [SPORT - 2] Which England football manager was sacked in 1974 ?

 

The White Room Quiz is open to all members of the Community.

 

Those who want to take part must pm [private message] me [Mi-Amigo] with their answers between 12 noon today [Wed 14 October] and 23.59 [11.59pm] tomorrow [Thursday 15 October]

- allowing 36 hours to pm your answers.

 

Please do not post your answers on the thread.

 

The answers - and results for each player taking part - will be posted on morning of Fri 16 October

 

Each member will be awarded star for each correct answer. In addition, each member who gives

Each member must pm [private message] their answers to me [Mi-Amigo] after 12 noon today [Wed 14 October 2020] and before 23.59 [11.59pm] tomorrow [Thurs 15 October 2020].

No member is to post any answer on the thread.

Any answer received after 23.59 [11.59pm] on Thursday 15 October will be declared void.

No googling, wiki, youtube search for answers.

 

The White Room Quiz is open to all members.

New members, who have recently joined the Community, and members who have not taken part before, are welcome to join the "regulars" with this week`s quiz. 

 

Please feel free to post any comments on the questions - but not the answers - on this thread.

If you have any questions about the quiz, please ask and I will reply here.

 

I hope everyone likes some of the questions in today`s White Room Quiz, and finds this WRQ fun.

A1   Pentland Firth - from Norse Pettlandskier.

      

Q2 [WORDS - 1]  What word is the opposite of aestivation ?

A2   hibernation.

        As mentioned in the thread, this was the question I found in a quiz book and got wrong -

        I thought aestivation was something to do with fire [from aestas - Greek/Latin]

 

Q3 [MOVIES - 1] Who played the title character Harry in the movie "When Harry Met Sally" ?

A3   Billy Crystal

 

Q4 [SPORT - 1] In which city was the first International rugby match played in 1871 ?

A4   Edinburgh - Scotland v England

Q1 Orcadian. On receiving this as an answer, I checked a number of sources and websites. None give the name of the strait as Orcadian, all given the strait as Pentland Firth, and mention Orcadian was the name by which residents of Orkney referred to themselves. However, the less-than-reliable Wikipedia entry for Pentland Firth reads "Pentland Firth (Scottish Gaelic: An Caol Arcach, meaning the Orcadian Strait)" but with no source nor reference; and the only other mention I could find was on the website whisky-distillery.net which shows an image with caption which reads "Pentland Firth. Orcadian Strait separates Caithness from Orkney. In the circumstances, I`ll be generous and award a half star
