What book(s) are you reading/would recommend?

Hi all,

On this day in 1979 a true classic; The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams was published.

This has made me wonder about all of you. What book(s) are you reading at the moment? What would you received to everyone else as essential read?

Right now I am reading a graphic novel called Kingsman: Secret Service which is based on a recent movie.

I once read a book called "finger and thumb"......it was a real page turner!!

I love a variety of adventure books from authors such as Robin Hobbs, Terry Brooks, Clive Cusser etc but also have a love of the Val McDermid novels.

If you want a really good read then you could do worse than the Joe Nesbo books.

The best books I have read recently are the Millennium Trio by Stieg Larsson. Read the books before watching the films as they don't do justice to the written works. Tragically he died aged 50 in 2004 and was posthumously named as  second author of the year in 2008. He didn't get the recognition he deserved in his lifetime. Sadly died of a heart attack climbing seven sets of stairs to his office because the lift wasn't working. In 2010 'The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest' was the best seller in the good old US of A.

The films were a box office hit but you can't condense brilliant writing into a 90 minute film without commercialisation.

Currently reading one of the games of throne books (can't remember which one).

Good books:

Science fiction - Fragment by Warren Fahy

Or Arthur C Clarke or Michael Crichton

Sci-Fi / Horror - Anything by Scott Sigler (best known for infected, contagious and pandemic)

Also Sergei Lukyanenko (Night watch trilogy)

Fantasy - David Eddings or Raymond E Feist (magician series) or Kelley Armstrong

Action - Can't beat an Andy Mcnab, or as an alternative Simon Kernick or Robert Ludlum

Light reading - Harry Potter

Autobigraphy - Tony Adams (Football), John McEnroe (tennis), Lawrence Dallaglio (rugby),

I am with @jonsie on this. I read the Millenium trilogy years ago and I couldn't get enought.

I really recommend it to anyone interested in police/detective novels.

Any more recommendations guys?

I'm reading: The Hacienda How not to run a club 

The writer is Peter Hook a member of Joy Division and New Order and he was one of the owners of Manchester's Hacienda club a very popular venue during the 1980s. 

I've just started it!

The Stone Roses, the Smiths, Bauhaus, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, and Happy Mondays .... and other great bands appear in the book!

This is just me but....

I never buy or read autobiographies on principal.i just find it sad that celebrities want to make more money once the spotlight fades. Now...I could really write a book about the last 3 years....:smileywink:

I thought school finished at 16 years of age but the last 3 years have taught me so much, I've done so much, done a lot of things I'm proud of but along the way I've made mistakes I'm not very proud of but I wouldn't change it if I could. I think tonight I have maybe made the biggest mistake of my life and I may have regrets in the morning  but as Mr Sinatra so eloquently put it, I'm doing it my way. I am now living for the day and if tomorrow happens, I'll deal with it.

God, this is way to profound after a bottle of Sang Som but as things stand I'm a single guy again as of 1500 hours UK time. I sense a night time fleeing to Cambodia on a fake passport 

Paperback will be available at all good retailers but maybe under the counter in in a brown cover....
