It's been around for a while really with no official release or hosting devices for it. Hope it does make it to the mainstream.

Except there is a release and a device too.
In fact, it's available as a retail release, not a beta.
Ubuntu has been messed with on phones for yonks now in various forms for after market flashing.

It seems quite modest at first, however the actual connectivity and features are quite good for a fairly cheap handset.
