Re: The White Room Thursday Quiz - 19 Sept 2019

@pgn answers continued:

Q4 [numbers]: What number did the Roman letter Z represent in medieaval times?

A4 Actually 2 numbers for Z: First, the medieval one - Z used to represent 2000, I have no idea why, as MM makes much more sense.

- correct = awarded star

Q3 [geography]: Where is the Albert canal?

A3 Assuming it's nothing to do with Prince Albert (!), I'm going to say the canal is part of a King Albert's legacy - and given the strategic importance of the lowlands of Europe during the wars, I am going for Albert I of Belgium, from 1910s or so to the mid-1930s. Is the Albert Canal is in Belgium?

- correct = awarded star Nothing to do with Britain`s Prince Albert and Albert DOCK is, of course, in Liverpool.

Well done @pgn - you are awarded star star star star star and a half star - just short of winning the Silver Thinker [but the Olympics question was difficult and the QI-type question this week]

How did those playing along - @Cleoriff ; @EmilieT ; @jonsie ; @AnnieM ; and @WispaRed7 - get on?

Your feedback and comments are welcome.

The White Room Thursday Quiz is open to everone.

If anyone would like to be a contestant along with those who have already put their names forward, please send me [Mi-Amigo] a pm and I`ll add your name to the list from which next week will be drawn by @Marjo.

The six questions for next week will be selected by me over the weekend in the following categories -

PEOPLE; MUSIC; WORDS; GAMES; GEOGRAPHY; SCIENCE.

I hope that as many as possible will join in by playing along.

Thank you everyone for your interest.

and wel done @pgn

I wouldn't have done as well as @pgn on this one.

I had no dea of the number question, nor the Olympics

So well done @pgn Bow

Re: The White Room Thursday Quiz - 19 Sept 2019

Well done @pgn

I got Jane Seymour, the Mock Turtle and the Ford colour (which did come only in black after a few years of production. They couldn't keep up with demand and black was the quickest drying colour, so other colours were dropped for several years).

As for the other questions, I had no ideas whatsoever!

Re: The White Room Thursday Quiz - 19 Sept 2019

Cool! I thought the Olympics one was a trick, but I only looked as far as the formation of the Irish Free State, not the odd wording of "events" 🥴

Ah, sure t'is only a bit o'fun 🤣

Thanks, @Mi-Amigo and @EmilieT, sorry to keep all waiting for the answers, it was one of those days 🙄

The Olympics one.

Most people [and Wiki] give it as Pat O`Callahan winning gold in hammer at 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.

@pgn

Three questions right is pretty good - as the Olympics one was very difficult.

Also Wiki state only seven Roman letters [I, V, X, L. D. C, M] represented numbers; which is another example of not trusting everthing on there
