Continuing good news for granddaughter with type1 diabetes. She has been seen by her designated specialist nurse who is very impressed at the way she is testing her own bloods and working out insulin dose from that (it's a pen like creation, so whatever your blood levels are, you dial the innsulin pen round and it sets the insulin dose to the required amount.) press 'pen' to arm and insulin given.
Anyway the DNS has decide to recommend Eloise for a data patch, which avoids the need for finger pricking to get blood.
It's this.... FREESTYLE
As you see it works via an app on your phone and is constantly reading the data. Also linked to the diabetes team so they can monitor the data over a 2 week period. Each patch lasts for 2 weeks. then replace with a new one. Can swim with it on, as long as it doesn't exceed 30 minutes in the water.
It's fascinating stuff the progress which has been made since I last nursed.
As this Type 1 diabetes appears to be on the increase, I'm hoping it may be of interest to others with children, who suddenly find themselves in this position.

Finger crossed...
She's phoned me @gmarkj, they are bringing it this afternoon, then she (9yrs old) will have a Zoom training call on Friday 
with 2 others, where they watch them apply the patch, make sure the app is downloaded to her phone and it all works correctly. I am shaking my head at the zoom call. I know her Mum will be with her but Eloise is used to Zoom calls as during lockdown she has used this method to contact her friends)
Here sits 'cat Grandma' (me) who has never made a zoom call in her life....

I can hardly contain my excitement, not only the hair appointment but F1 is back this weekend after a long 3 weeks since first race of the season.
Fans are buzzing as it appears Mercedes no longer have the fastest car. It could be the year of the Red Bulls. Lewis will have a fight on his hands this season, so bring it on!!
