Child Born To Woman with donated womb.
Back in the day I used to post a lot of new research re medicine. This stopped post Covid.
However such a lovely story deserves a mention.
A UK woman called Grace was born without a womb. Obviously unable to have children.
Her sister Amy, married with two children, donated her womb to her sister.
The operation took 30 medics, 17 hrs to remove the womb and transplant it into Grace.
Within 2 weeks of surgery, Grace had her first ever period.
2 years after that transplant, Grace became pregnant via IVF and gave birth via caesarian operation in 2023.
Her daughter was called Amy (after her sister) and Isabel) after the lead consultant. Grace plans to try for one more child. If successful, the womb will be removed so Grace no longer has to take the immunosuppressant drugs currently used to avoid the womb being rejected.
What a wonderful, life enhancing story.

Yes we were born into a wonderful age and have seen so much
But future generations will benefit so much more health-wise
Cancer and heart disease will probably be eradicated.....as long as we don't blow everyone to pieces first!

Funnily enough that was just on the radio.
Astonishing what can be done now @Cleoriff

I've just watched it on BBC news @gmarkj (I'd only read it this morning)
They did make a point that are only attempting 15 of these transplants as part of a clinical trial.
They have done a further 3 (since Grace's transplant) but used wombs from donors who are deceased.
Every one of the surgeons involved gave their time and expertise free of charge.
A charity paid for the NHS time and care.
One of the transplant team said he cried when the baby was born via caesarian. ❤️

Trouble is, those of us who are the wrong side of 40 will be long gone in 50 years :'(
