Amazing how Leylandii takes over and suppresses all growth beneath its rapidly-growing crown.

I think the birds must have carried the seeds to the trees when they were building nests. (No birds when the trees were cut down) I've only ever once tried lupins and delphiniums and that was 30 years ago in a different part of the garden. They didn't grow! 😂

We had something similar in our front garden.
When we bought the house we had a lavender bush by our front door. After a couple of years of dodging all manner of flying buzzy things we decided to remove it - so I dug it out.
The next year we had 3 patches of daffodils and 2 lots of tulips pop up!

I came close to losing mine yesterday. (Or so I thought) My son came over to mow the lawns and like his dad is no gardener!!! So lawns mowed, he started to cut back some of the overgrown shrubs. (I'd given him a list against a diagram of the garden....taking no chances me!!) Next thing, he wanders inside asking if I wanted 'those weeds pulling up' 'Those weeds' were the lupins, poppies, aquilegia etc. I shot out of my chair fearing the worst but he was laughing. He said, I'm not Dad, I just wanted to see your reaction! Cruel boy 😂😂
Off to hairdressers this am. Thankfully no more gardening to do.....😎

Love reading the gardening stories, @Cleoriff @gmarkj. Very cruel son indeed, @Cleoriff 😂.
My father's side of the family is very green thumbed—gardeners, greengrocers, florists, farmers, etc. Strangely, it wasn't until I moved to London last year and lost a lot of outdoor space that I became infatuated with it myself 😅.
I'm growing some thyme, parsley and basil on my windowsill currently. But, it seems, my basil has fallen foul to something whilst I was away for the week 😔. The satisfaction of growing these has been great though, so I will continue to do my research and try again.
Parsley still going strong, though 💪. Shame about the basil because it was beautiful before I left 🤔.

Just unbelievable @pgn. I find it hard to accept this type of excuse from ANY airline personally. Once the borders were opened post Covid they should have been ready to go, even if it meant recruiting staff they had laid off earlier in the year. This is peak holiday season (or the start of it) so why are they even running any flight at all if they know, as they must, that they can't get people home??

Just to add to that story, @pgn, my flight from Barcelona to Bristol was due at 7 am Sunday morning. They text me at 3 am to cancel it. Then, I couldn't get hold of anyone until the afternoon, which is when they offered me a new flight on the following Thursday but "seats weren't guaranteed" 😅.
Requested a refund and ended up flying into Gatwick with another airline on the Tuesday. My poor friend had to rush to Paddington and catch the last train home to Wales, meaning he got in at around 2 am Wednesday.
Not the best time to fly at the moment...
