I know TNS is meant to be a place of introspection, @jonsie, but it sounds like you need your friends around you - perhaps the Virtual Lounge could do with a spot of redecoration, to make it a touch Christmasier, to bring the punters in for those who can't be where they want to be at this time...

I am having Christmas on my own with my cat Marty

My son and daughter-in-law are going to be with her family

It's no bother. They will be at home on Boxing Day, then Emma goes back to work - she's a pharmacist 

I shall be able to do as I wish

My birthday is in January and I shall see them then, when it's more amenable to us all
