Unfortunately, this has been on the cards for awhile.
I've never had a windows phone so have no idea what they were like to use on a daily basis. But the one thing that was commented on by friends who did have windows phones was the lack of apps. They also commented on the speed of my phone in comparison to their windows phones.
Sad, really but no great surprise.

They started killing them off years ago. They were never any good as a phone or OS. They were tailored to business customers only

It's a shame, though it was on the cards I think...
Apparently, they were damn good phones when used for business only. (According to some members who had them solely for that purpose).

A good phone, lacking an ecosystem in which to thrive, unfortunately. Google Play Store and the Apple equivalent keep Android and iPhone users stocked up... But Windows had much less to offer.

Agree.
The same companies who used Windows phones for their employees, are now turning to Android and iPhones.
That includes management staff in our Hospital Trusts. (in this area anyway)
I did notice that our local car dealerships, Vauxhall and Ford have also changed.

Thanks for this thread @Bambino
Of course I would be different!
I have enjoyed my Windows phone and sorry it won't be supported end of this year.
Good Price, reliable, good battery life for me anyway.
I don't want or need hundreds of apps.
I took apps off that I didn't need.
No doubt there will be that "special phone somewhere over the rainbow" for me
Until then me and my shadow will be strolling

I think the key to your comment is
'You don't want or need 100's of apps'..... therefore a windows phone would be fine to suit your needs.
I have an android phone (Note 😎 but unlike you I have a lot of apps......though I don't use or need many of them. So a damn good clear out is my next task.

Yes, and they take up space too and I haven't got much of that! Actually I was quite annoyed that my phone was crammed full of apps I didn't want.
Good clear out is just the ticket!
Lots of best wishes Cleoriff
