Hey everyone,
With The Day of the Dead festival just around the corner we're doing a few Mexican themed topics on the community this week. To follow up on yesterdays Mexican food discussion I thought we could discuss one of the key cultural symbols of the festival, Calavera or Skulls!
Whilst the skulls come in many different forms the most common is sugar skulls. Made from a mixture of sugar, holy water and lemon and are used to represent the dead during the festival. The skulls are deliberately colourful as the Day of the Dead is a celebration of those who have passed on and not simply a day of mourning.
What do you think of The Day of the Dead festival and more specifically the sugar skulls? Do you think we should have a similar festival here in the UK and would you ever want to attend the Mexican festival?
