Very sad news which I also read on the BBC News website. Having read she was gravely ill I was afraid this would be the next news I'd read.

She was a very talented lady whose music and voice I loved. The Queen of Soul who will be missed by many. But her music lives on.

RIP Aretha

Yes, a tragedy indeed and a great loss to music. As I've said she'll be missed by many, including me. Yet another music great leaves us.

So many of the singers I grew up listening to gone, so very very sad.

Very sad although we have been prepared for it for a few days now. I remember the days of holidaying in Newquay when Soul music was the natural progression from the groups of the sixties and early 70's. Forget disco music that was sent from hell to annoy me, my time dancing in the newquay (and Manchester) clubs was to Soul music and it's timeless. RIP Aretha, you had SOUL broken_heart
