Plusnet without line rental?

Just rang Plusnet up armed with the MAC code I got off Sky last week, the sales bloke told me that with line rental I can pay £29.40 for everything, that's line rental with free local calls and fast Broadband.

Thing is though, I am about 3 years into a contract with Talk Talk for my Landline, which I'd rather not change if I can possibly help it as it saves me a LOT of money ringing Mum and Dad (because they're also on Talk Talk) and the rest of my family/carers including my Brother in London.

There's about 30p difference in the monthly cost between PN and Talk Talk, should I go with it or try and negotiate a better deal which lets me keep Talk Talk?

I used to have BT Line rental, but the call charges were financially crippling me, hence the move to Talk Talk about 3 years ago.

Fair enough.

I'm on Bt Infinity with unlimited Internet and line rental option 1 which gives me free weekend calls and calls after 7pm.

I pay quarterly £120'ish.

I've just spoke to a very nice lady called Jackie at Plusnet, she's sold me bwtween 5 and 12 Mb Broadband (estimated best speed at 7 Mb which is what I get now) for £13.49 a month, that's keeping my Talk Talk landline, just ADSL Broadband.

I know some folk on here will be confused as to why I'm willing to cough up the £12.49 a month when I was on 12 months free with Sky, but I've explained at length why I don't really want Sky, I'm happy with their telly, but I don't want their phone line or Broadband.

Have you checked if TT or others have your local exchange LLU'ed otherwise you might not be getting any more speedwise? Check here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/index.php

TT did that in our exchange and the difference was something like 2Mb increase over BT equipment they were using.

BTW, I thought Sky had their call centres up in Livingston Scotland!

Going from the official sky forum lots of members state that they do use non Uk call centres ,and I've not seen site admin correct them.

Well the direct debit request will go to Yorkshire Bank tomorrow probably, then it will take a working week to process, and according to PN I should be up and running by this time next week.

Quick question though before I do a thread in the Home Broadband section, do I have to send the O2/Sky router back to them? I'm hoping the Plusnet router will be here by either Wednesday or Thursday, they said 48 hours.

Typically No.

I have around 4 in my loft.

I suppose the cost to collect or send it back outweighs the cost of the router and the admin involved.

Just keep it for a few months.

It is the norm to have the equipment in good time for your activation date.
