It's always been expensive to send over to America even worse to Canada. I recall selling something on ebay years ago to an American who failed to read the international part about postage and expected me to send it at UK rates. Then when I pointed out the listing terms and gave him the conversion rate (which was the xe.com rate) of the cheapest postage, I then got accused of ripping him off with the comment "I could get a better rate at Heathrow".

Which I replied "And exactly how are you going to do that then?" Needless to say he never paid but I ended up selling the item for more money to someone in the UK 😎

Wait till you order something from the US and get hit by import duty. That's the expected part, the bit that gets me is Royal Mail send you a card demanding not only the duty but £8 for posting the card through your letterbox! (was a few years ago though).
