I’m still reluctant to take my phone out of my pocket if it’s anything more than light rain. But I think our paranoia stems from the fact that at one time, manufacturers would often use any evidence of “water damage” as justification for voiding your warranty. Sometimes that evidence was simply a hidden sensor changing colour, which wasn’t necessarily a reliable indicator that the phone had received a good soaking.
Thankfully, phones are a lot more robust these days, and we should be able to use them in practical situations with a lot more confidence.
But old habits die hard
