I'd thought it maybe something like 'coppering up' 

In my local chippy they charge you a small amount for a 'sachet' of Heinz tomato sauce ... you twist the top off & it goes all over you  ... needless to say now I just use the salt & pepper provided

I do grab a handful of their 'napkins' though as you could spit peas through them

And another thing for Room 101, thank you for reminding me:

Paper napkins that do not absorb - they just spread the spill into an infinitely thinner layer, without actually soaking it up...  Some places could do with watching the ads for "Plenty" (or "Bounty" as was), "Just one sheet"
