Best thing to do is to mention to 02 to improve staff training. thankyou Iam fully aware of where 5GSA is available and where it is not. I used to work in the industry and keep my knowledge up to date, (and what I don't know about this industry isn't worth knowing) . I just find myself growing tired of individuals across all the operators who simply don't have the knowledge they should have.

@T2tim1

I work in IT and deal with mobiles on an enterprise level, and if I mention a  SA or NSA or even MAM or MDM or a lot of the more techy terms then I lose most of the people I deal with across all the networks...

Gone are the days where the techies provided the support at a first call, now they are behind several layers...

  1. Yes your right. but I think what made my experience even worse was the fact I was asking technical support about an R15 sim! I could almost forgive a customer services advisor for not having any knowledge of R15, at least by name anyway! but technical support have absolutely no excuse, especially when 02s SA5G has been blasted all over the press. either the staff should be in a different job or the training is at fault, and since staff training costs money I suspect I have probably hit the nail on the head! Iam not just pointing the finger at 02 of course, because as Iam sure you know the situation is much the same across all the providers.

I don't think you will get any arguments on here @T2tim1 with your assertion that the customer service staff of O2 (and the other MNOs) would, in many cases, benefit from additional training. However, you will appreciate that this is a customer-to-customer forum with no O2 staff presence, so it is unlikely that anyone from O2 will see your very pertinent observations. 👍

What's the current status on this @Dave-O2? is Stand Alone 5G (5G SA) now available on iPhone?

I ask as I now have a (disabled) toggle to enable 5G SA. As I say however, it's disabled. I have an eSIM (recent one, just got a new one around 2-3 weeks ago) but it's still disabled

Morning @Salem874

Which model of iPhone are you currently using?

If you have an eligible device, we may need to check if the correct eSIM has been activated to use 5G Standalone.

@Dave-O2 So there is no way for the customer to determine the type of eSIM they possess?

And then there is all the faff of getting a correct replacement.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Hey @Enlli,

Shortly all new eSIM activations will be automatically set up to support 5G Standalone on iPhone 15/16.

Currently, if a customer can use all services, however, 5G Standalone is not available and they're using an eligible device in an area that supports this service, it's likely a new eSIM activation is required.

A list of the eligible devices/areas for 5G Standalone can be found in the How Do I Get 5G Standalone? section HERE

All other eligible devices will currently need to use a Physical SIM to access 5G Standalone.

Hi @Dave-O2

Sorry, these notification emails went to spam!

Anywya, I have a iPhone 16 Pro, and (frustratingly) had to request a new eSIM as the old one couldn't be transferred from the previous phone (this deserves a whole new thread discussion lol). So the new eSIM itself is around 2-3 weeks old.

Given there appears to be a operator update that allows 5G Standalone, I would've thought an eSIM this new would have it enabled? I hope I don't need to go to a store again to get it reissued?
