I have been pondering this on and off today, and wonder if anyone knows why members of the Royal family seem to wear a cluster of poppies today?

Why does the Queen wear more than one poppy at Remembrance Day events?

Poppies are traditionally worn as a mark of respect this time of year.

But the Queen has often been spotted wearing multiple poppies during Remembrance Day events.

Other royals have followed suit, including Kate Middleton, who was pictured last year wearing three poppies at once.

The reason for senior royals wearing more than one poppy is not officially known.

There is a theory the extra poppies could represent each service in the war.

These are the Army, RAF, Navy, Civil Defence and women.

Just watching a lovely, heart wrenching programme on ITV

Britains Poppies: The First World War Remembered.

Showing some of the beautiful poppy sculptures travelling the country, interspersed with stories from families and friends

I didn't know that the youngest serving soldier was aged just 12 years old heart

I saw the play "War Horse" recently, and it was quite a moving experience.

It's intended as a learning resource for schools, but that website has a very interesting section on the history of World War 1, and the vital role played by horses.
