IMEI not on porfolio

I am trying to recycle my iPhone XS Max that I purchased through O2 but when I enter the IMEI number on the O2 Recycle site I get an error message "IMEI not in Portfolio". Therefore I cannot complete the process. Why?

You will need to contact o2 recycling direct, as it could be that Apple has not provided the batch of IMEI's or it is out of sequence
