Just read this. Shocking

An incoming missile alert plunged residents of Hawaii into panic on Saturday morning before it was declared to be false.

Mobile phone users received a message saying: "Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill."

Apparently an 'Employee had pressed the wrong button'....it took 18 mins to rectify...

That's actually astonishing! I just wonder what the heck a text would be of use if it was a nuclear warhead? I At least they have such a service in place and something that every nation should have.

I think it's as frightening as hell. An alert system is in place because of the potential proximity of Hawaii to North Korean missiles. Someone pushed the wrong button.

It took 18 minutes to correct the alarm....

It actually took nearly 40 minutes for a correction to be sent out @Cleoriff

During that time, the correct procedure would be to bend over, put your head between your legs, and kiss your butt goodbye. Seeking shelter wouldn't do a damn thing to help anyone.

Yes @Bambino the BBC report said it was corrected by email 18 minutes later but there was no follow up mobile text for 38 minutes (according to their source at the Honolulu Star)

Who stops to read emails after reading an alert like that??.

Absolutely shocking that this was allowed to happen. I expect it will affect those poor people for a long long time
