It isn't anything that couldn't still be done if the right companies got it together to do it. We have the infrastructure and technological knowhow already. All it would need is a company with forward thinking to take the lead.

The major problem here is that wifi is an expensive commodity that everyone needs and companies want to charge for. I agree, it should be possible to implement but maybe one day....

In Thailand you can get wifi in most places but there is a charge to mobile customers by all the networks. Having said that, the charge is 100 baht a month (£2) but you can log on automatically in any of the big shopping malls or even the streets around them.

In an age whereby free wifi (yes I know we pay higher fares) is available on buses and trains in the UK, free public wifi must surely come.
