So the new season will start in March and Australia was planned as usual to be the opening track. Now it looks set to be cancelled. (March 21st)

I have heard via someone who lives in Australia that although Covid related, nothing to do with that per se. More due to the fact, they are not prepared to run it without spectators. It's a street circuit and they make millions from the fans and ticket prices.

I'm inclined to agree with that. The Covid Bubble teams have put in place seemed to work well, 3 drivers out of 20 catching a mild dose and 3 team staff...

It means that the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled for 28 March now looks poised to become the 2021 season opener.

Romain Grosjean has taken pole at his 3rd IndyCar race at the Grand Prix of Indianaplolis, he was 0.126 faster than Josef Newgarden.

Wow, to be fair that is impressive.

Yes, the race is on Sky F1 Sports tonight at 7pm. Excellent effort by Grosjean.

Talking about him, the sad news with the change of calendar, is the French GP has been moved forward a week. Now this is the race where Romain was going to do some demo laps in the Mercedes W10 on the Sunday before the race.

It now can't happen as he will be doing Indy Car that weekend. He will still get to drive it but not until the Tuesday!

Such a shame, the fans and F1 personnel won't be there to cheer him on.. I do hope someone films it, otherwise it won't be seen.

A real shame. His home GP, in a championship winning car which now will only be seen by Mercedes personnel.. He's had a seat fitting and a Mercedes racing suit and was all geared up to do this in France.

Being a racer though, I bet he's not too disapointed now he's on pole in the IndyCar!

I really don't like that French Paul Ricard track, bring back Magny-Cours!

No I'm not keen on it either. Very boring.

Re Romain. The fans will be disappointed. It would have been great seeing him  doing demo laps pre race on the Sunday.

I didn't watch the race but Grosjean came second, good finish but he must have been disapointed after getting pole and leading the race for 44 laps.

@Anonymous

I recorded and watched most of it. Problem is it's 3 hrs long and I found it a bit boring. Also the US network did not have the leaderboard in the correct order for a lot of the race.

When I left after 90 minutes Romain was still in the lead.

I knew last night that VeeKay had won and Grosjean was second.

However I have another question and it's Covid related. The drivers came from all over the world, so why was this race allowed to go ahead yet there is still a query as to whether F1 will be racing at COTA?!

There were also spectators in the stadium. It certainly wasn't full but various stands had a lot of people

Not sure whether the drivers have isolate when they arrive, or what testing goes on during the series etc

@Cleoriff I used to watch the Indy racing for years, but in the end I got fed up with the constant American ad-breaks (Would keep going back to the studio in the UK because they would lose the feed when the American adds were on)

I agree the whole Covid thing with sport is a complete mess. I fear another general lockdown with this dreadful Indian veriant - Seems to be no end to it.
