Although the season has yet to begin and we won't see the cars till next month when testing begins, I will start this thread off by wishing Lewis Hamilton a Happy 35th Birthday
This may be the year he wins his 7th WDC equalling Michael Schumacher. Who knows? He will certainly have Ferrari and the Red Bulls chasing him. Also with some luck and more power in the Honda engine, I am expecting McLaren to be in the mix as well....

FP3 results.
Qualifying will be interesting. Cars going off track, track getting hotter, tyres not working well for any teams. Add to that lap times being deleted for exceeding track limits.
Roll on...Lol.

What a Qualy. Q2 Vettel crashed leaving LH with so little time to do his hot lap.
He managed to get 4th.
Q3...did a great job and ended up on pole. However, he has to see Stewards for missing bollards in Q1.
So whether he keeps pole is another matter!!

The record of Michael Schumacher still stands. Lewis was given 10 sec penalty for staanding start infringement.
Still he recovered to come 3rd. Bottas win. Max 2nd

All a bit suspect if honest @jonsie
The stewards have now removed the 2 penalty points they gave LH after listening to radio messages which clearly showed the team told him where he could do the practice starts. Fined the team £25000 instead.
Even more concerning is Mika Salo, one of the Finnish race stewards, leaked the penalty BEFORE it had been applied, to someone at a Finnish TV station..

I haven't watched F1 for a couple of seasons now, and one of the reasons was the finicky and daft rules that seem to plague the sport. Further evidence of this seems to have re-surfaced yesterday with Hamilton's penalties. Did anyone get hurt? No. Did it effect anyone else's race chances? No. So slap him on the wrist and leave it at.

Couldn't agree more. It was farcical. The same sort of penalty is given if someone makes a stupid move DURING the race when they crash into someone else.
The race hadn't even started.
Also this rule is Sochi specific as it isn't a straight run out of the pit lane.
Many people are asking why the stewards, who saw the first incident, didn't contact the team and warn them. Then he would never have made the same mistake again.
Luckily, after reviewing the radio calls from the team, they have removed the 2 penalty points from LH's license.
Mark Webber and David Coulthard from Channel 4 said they can understand why Lewis was furious. The fact that someone like him has a total of 8 penalty points on his licence, and someone like Grosjean has none, is bordering on the ridiculous.
I'm waiting to hear if Mika Salo, the steward (who is a great friend of Bottas) and appears to have leaked the penalty to Finnish TV before it was announced on Sky, will continue with his role as a steward.

If this had been Vettel a few years back and/or involving Ferrari, a different course of action, if any at all, would have been taken.
I think you are correct @welshsteve76 .
There are so many people who do NOT want to see Schumachers records broken. (I fail to see why as he cheated his way to two WDC)
Had LH won in Sochi he would have equalled MS's win record.
I don't mind. Let it happen in Germany on Schumachers home track which is the next race.
Finally, Hamilton has just signed a 3 year deal with Mercedes, so that will upset a lot of people as he will match Schumachers record of 7 WDC this year (unless he is unable to race for the remaining 7 races).... and with another 3 years to go, who knows what will happen
