Football Talk

Thought I would start off a thread, bit of friendly banter not too heavy and an opportunity to express your ideas about your favourite team.

What are you hoping for in the January transfer market?

As a Liverpool fan I am hoping for cover for Mane and the front 3.

The Lionesses have been unbelievable. Sure, Spain made it tough in the quarter finals but what a screamer of a goal from Georgia Stanway.

I would love to see The Lionesses v The Netherlands in the final.

Well my hopes of The Lionesses v The Netherlands in the final ain`t gonna happen - after France beat Holland 1-0 before game went into extra time.

So it`s

England v Sweden in the semi-final Tues 26 July 20.00

Germany v France  -------------"-------  Wed 27 July 20.00

Both matches being shown on BBC.

EURO 22 FINAL - Sun 31 July at Wembley.

England v Germany.

The Lionesses can and will do it.

History will repeat itself - remember the Lionesses beat Germany in the Arnold Clark Cup in February.

Beth Mead is equal with Germany`s Popp on six goals. When Beth gets more goals than Popp in the final, she will get the Golden Boot.

The Lionesses are playing so well, I can’t see anyone stopping them! Beating Sweden 4-0 in the semi-final is one proof of this, as is coming through the group stage without conceding a goal.

However the cynic in me thinks it all feels very set up, England hosting, getting Germany in the final, beating the 2nd ranked team 4-0 (including a couple of clangers) and an opportunity to win the tournament the men couldn’t against arguable England’s biggest rival at Wembley. It’s all too perfect and a great way to raise the profile of the woman’s game. GO AWAY CYNIC THOUGHTS YOU’RE WRONG!!! 🤔 😥

In other news I’m an Arsenal fan and excited about the new season starting next week. Although this is becoming overshadowed by the reports that *allegedly* Thomas Partey is involved in a serious police incident.

I don’t want to bring down the vibe of this thread but would welcome constructive and well meant comments regarding this… Should footballers be suspended while under investigation for such serious crimes? Should the media not release these stories until they are proven to be true? Do do high profile people (usually with fame and fortune) think the law doesn’t apply to them? Is the reputation loss fair given nothing is proven? Do you have any thoughts on this? (Although please try to avoid making this a he said she said discussion if possible. Thanks)

I'm of the opinion that no matter the alleged crime, names should not be released to the media at all until either a court case or a verdict has been reached

This goes whether it is a celebrity, sports person or pop star

So many people have been wrongly named and their reputation sullied

...and as for Arsenal....!
