Norway signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights. They contravened that Convention just as Breivik contravened Norway's criminal laws.
Imprisonment is his punishment for that crime. Solitary confinement for potentially the whole of his sentence contravenes the Convention.
Breivik can't be blamed for a namby pamby Convention on Human Rights.
That's my take on it.

Breivic is inhuman...human rights? Yes put him in with others who will make him suffer beyond imagination. He will soon want solitary again...

Perhaps.......but he'll be back in court again pretty quickly because the Convention allows him to bring a case against the State.
I say again, it's a namby pamby Convention and it's open to abuse by the lowest of the low.
