dancing on ice 23.png

I have all the info about the new series which starts in January 2023.

I will write about the contestants later but wanted to get the thread started.

The judges are Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Oti Mabuse and Ashley Banjo.

Presenters are unchanged with Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield.

We appear to only have 11 contestants this year, unless they have another one, yet to be revealed?

Checking them over, there will many comments such as 'Who the  hell are they?'

All I will say, until my next post, we have

A Drag Artist

A The Wanted band member

A Love Island Contestant

An actress from Corrie

A retired Footballer

An Olympian

A Liberty X singer

A Comedian

A Hollyoaks actress

A Towie 'star'

An Actress ( retired) from Eastenders (now a DJ)

More to follow .... (I bet you can't wait @Mi-Amigo @sheepdog) 😂

My thoughts.

Carley and Mark. Sick of judges overscoring their favourite. A good skate but considering it was a Samba I didn't see too many Samba steps. No Samba rolls or shakes. A bit frantic at times. OVERSCORED.

Mollie and Sylvain Bit of a shame she was given the Cheerleading dance to skate. She skated a fair bit on her own but not sure what else she could have done with that dance. However headbanger next week!

Darren and Tippy. No idea what  that dance was to do with SWING? The judges seemed more excited that 3/4 of Bucks Fizz were performing/miming. Certainly shouldn't have been a higher score than Mollie

Siva and Klebara. A lovely waltz. Their best dance yet. Underscored.

Ekin-Su and Mark. No idea why she needed 3 topless males with her, (One of whom was her boyfriend Davide) Not much disco and rarely let go of her partner.

Joey and Vanessa. A really great Paso Doble. Hard to dance without skates, yet he is always underscored.

Patsy and Matt. Poor Timewarp (as an expert, I can say that with confidence😂)  Skated better this week than last.

Niles and Olivia. A brilliant street dance (in front of Ashley.) Best dance of the night. Chris challenged him to a 4 twist toe loop next week. Niles seemed quite keen.

Next week Musical Icons. Hope one of the better skaters does Freddie Mercury. 😎

Missed the opener as I was watching the football over on Sky.

So tonight, Ashley Banjo not only has a sharpie beard but has resorted to stick on velcro pads. Alison Hammond seemed to have replaced Moti so I'll save the uncanny resemblance photo tonight. I'd like to have heard the discussion on where to place the lapel microphone on Jayne Torvill's outfit. Bonus point for Phil Schofield for wearing a shirt and tie but gets that taken away for being such a stroppy teenager in having both in black. Holly, well that was nice dress on her @Cleoriff but I still await the bacofoil 🙂

Carley: What a mess. I thought solo skating would prove to her undoing but tonight showed a disaster is coming. Bonus point for the hair though.

Mollie: Big slide backwards this week. More like a skate-off dance with Sylvan doing all the work. Cheerleaders were a better watch unfortunately.

Darren: Always fun to watch and far from threatening any of the stronger ones on the show. But fun anyway. As for Buck Fizz The Fizz, was a surprise but that only led to looking up the wikipedia article to why one member was missing which is well, fascinating and complex.

Siva: Wow. Was he reading my comments from last week because he excelled tonight with a great routine. Undermarked I thought and now just needs to keep this level up.

Ekin-Who? Pretty much set her low bar last week and went above it in the first 30 seconds. After that, just hand waving and lifting. Tacky ending with her boyfriend. Also, I'm now re-examing the state of my belly button thanks to Brendyn.

Joey: Oh so much promise but just not as good as last weeks. Throwing shapes tending to be more wet lettuce than crisp. Look of shock and horror on Joey's face when seeing Brendan Cole demonstrating it may have led to my conclusion. Good though.

Patsy: Flatsy. Sort of came on, sort of hand waved, sort of lost speed with every turn and sort of ended. I mean the bar was low from last week but this did nothing than to say she's in the skate-off.

Nile: Along comes Nile and with 15 seconds shows how far back everyone else is. Then the rest of the routine just says winner. Best described in this gif:

snow-bentley

The Bo(Tox) Selecta: Felt a little forced compared to last week. Then again after seeing Nile, it was going to be hard to follow. Consistent now but may need some tricks to keep up. May need to prove his solo skating ability in an extended sequence away from Colin to be any threat to Nile.

Skate-off was who was the least worse performer yet we failed to see what more skating Flatsy Palmer did over Ekin-who? Meh, we know who's out next week anyway.

Oh the musical icons next week. Hmm, is there an irony in having "I'm still standing" on an ice-skating show?

The Vivienne and Colin. Beyonce - Halo

Darren and Tippy. George Michael- I'm Your Man (a Wham song I believe?!)

Joey and Vanessa. Elton John- I'm Still Standing.

Niles and Olivia. Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You. (I'm expecting this to be great!)

@CleoriffWere the Spice Girls musically iconic? Hmm I may have inflict some self-torture on my ears next week and see what the zig-a-zig-ah was all about back in the 90's. At this point, I have to say thanks to o2 Priority for having a six month free trial of Apple Music so I can skip all the bad parts. Yeah, that's less time than a DOI ad break  😁  Pretty much Patsy's swan song as I can't see her doing much more than a few fist pumps and turns.

Interested to see what Bo(tox) Selecta does. Halo is a rather arm waving song so should suit him if he pulls off some decent skating to match. If not, still safe as it will be either Mollie (more down to choice of song) or Darren in the bottom two this weekend.

Should be a good show on Sunday.

I wonder if Siva's choice is a little too safe?

The only thing to save Mollie, will be the headbanger (if she does it well!)

Personally I can't wait for Niles and Olivia's performance. He is meant to be doing a quadruple toe loop. Let's hope that goes well!

So judges` favourite Carley gets a song everyone has heard of; while Mollie gets a song few know [I don`t]...

but Mollie will nail it if she pulls off the headbanger. I can`t see Carley trying that - yet.

As for eviction - if there is any justice, Bianca sorry Patsy will be going home unless she shouts "Nicky!!!!" at the end of her skate and all the old `Enders fans vote for her  😂

Skating I`m looking forward to ? Mollie and Niles.

@sheepdog @Mi-Amigo

This is the dirge 'Happier than Ever' by Billie Eilish. Not sure how Mollie will do a headbanger to this number....unless they speed it up!

Judges challenge - A Solo Spin with 3 Revolutions.

Siva unwell so will be back next week.

Joey and Vanessa (Elton John)

A super skate. Kept up the pressure and was in control. Did 4 Revs with his spin. Scored 33.0

Patsy and Matt (Spice Girls)

Better for her although she messed up the spin. Only managed 2 with both feet on floor.

Scored 26.5

Niles and Olivia (Robbie Williams)

A superb skate. Really captured the essence of Robbie. Also very inventive. Judges challenge  was 4 revs and managed that with no problem. Scored 36.0

Darren and Tippy. (George Michael)

I thought he lost the beat of that music. Too slow. Didn't manage the judges challenge Overmarked Scored 28.5

The Vivienne and Colin (Beyonce)

Bit of a shock seeing him stripped back. Made a few mistakes but overall skated quite well Overmarked 33.5

Carley and Matt (Dusty)

Well.! Didn't skate on her own much, nor did she  manage the judges challenge Vastly overmarked with 34.0

Molly and Sylvain. (Billie Eilish)

Even  though I didn't like the song, Mollie put her heart and soul into it. Captured the essence. Skated well on her own. Only managed 2 revolutions but the headbanger was superb. UNDERMARKED with 30.5 (The audience and Sylvain were outraged at the marks)

Back to The Future cast played Johnny B Goode. Quite entertaining. 😂

Posting now and will follow on.....

Patsy and Matt and Darren and Tippy in the skate off.

Darren and Tippy's skate was vastly superior and they were saved.

Next week it's Movie Week.

Diversity will be performing. Good!

I hope the judges mark more fairly next week. They really do have their favourites. I still can't understand how The Vivienne with all those mistakes scored higher than Joey Essex. Also Carley who did a safe skate, scored 3.5 points higher than Mollie!!

Thank you for write-up @Cleoriff

My thoughts

Joey - good performance. Agree with judges` score

Patsy - better skate; didn`t fulfill challenge. agree with judges` score; deserved to be in skate-off.

Niles - best performance and deserved highest score

Darren - overscored: didn`t complete challenge; deserved to be in skate-off

The Vivienne - overscored: quite good, made mistakes, so why scored higher than Joey ?

Carley - overscored: didn`t complete challenge, so why a higher score than Joey who did 4 spins ?

Mollie - underscored: only did 2 spins but did head-banger

Skate-off: Darren v Patsy. Darren gave better perfomance. Right decision to send Patsy home.

Looking forward to Movie Week next week and Diversity on show and maybe Ashley skating...
