But then, if they have faith in their prices and offering why would they be?

Suppliers have always relied on the apathy of customers being too lazy to change. Insurers do notify you but tell you that if you don't notify them within 30 days then your insurance cover at a vastly increased rate would be deemed accepted. Many people just can't be assed getting quotes or shopping around.

Rule of thumb,  change insurers, tv companies, gas and electricity suppliers every 12 months for better rates. Nothing for loyalty and new suppliers are usually fighting for new customers with cheap prices or free gifts.
