This is high on my list. George Michael at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. Superb!

Hazy Shade of Winter - The Bangles
Alone - Heart
Both far better than the originals!
Oh & that charity version of SCYHO is AWFUL!

Same here, @madasaf1sh - excellent, the vid too.
This one's a cover, but many think The Animals' version is the original - it's not, but it is the best: The House of The Rising Sun.
Crank up the volume at the back there... 😉

The Animals version was the best, absolutely no doubt of that. I've heard the Bob Dylan/Joan Baez version and it doesn't float my boat at all.
Lucky enough to have seen the Animals back in the day and unusually for a 60's group their live performances were as good as the recorded version.
Probably one of the most underrated groups of all time. Sad when they split up.

I agree that The Animals version of House of the Rising Sun is the best cover version.
As for Bob Dylan, he was the voice of a generation, writing and singing about what many of us thought at the time, and, as said, his Times They Are A-Changing has become an anthem of this year.
