The BBC have announced that two patients in the UK have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

No further details have been given other than they are both members of the same family and are receiving specialist NHS care.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51325192

At present, 83 Britons and 27 foreign nationals are flying back to the UK from Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the outbreak.

The flight is due to land at RAF Brize Norton at 13:30 GMT.

The UK passengers will then be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral and quarantined for two weeks.

Every single person who catches measles would need treatment because it can be deadly. So everyone gets vaccinated. That makes sense.

But isn't that the problem, we don't know who it kills and why. I think I've previously mentioned my biking friend, fit as a fiddle in his fifties being taken down by it. The last person in the world i'd expect to succumb to a virus.

But we do. That's the thing. If this virus did kill anyone who got it, 2+ million would have died by now if you believe the "positive cases" stats.

Whilst I do feel for you over your friend, I truly do, that is a very very rare occurrence. Even professors doom & gloom admit that.

Maybe they did have an underlying condition, just not one that was diagnosed. I'm not being cold or heartless here. Just being objective based on the facts I have seen

Thanks

And my cousin who was nursing my uncle? And my cousins daughter? Not a rare occurrence I'm afraid.

And you're right C-19 doesn't kill everyone but neither does ebola.. doesn't mean I'd want to break the quarantine rules if that got loose
(Poorly my ass, that Scottish nurse needed a slap for her stupidity)

But this is just me, telling it as I see it, from personal experience.

Yeh but are we being fed the truth ?
It is necessary to keep the younger age groups feeling confident to go to work etc.
I hear a different tune too ...

BBC  now saying most are now younger people in trouble and in hospital.

The BBC news have just shown us two people under 30 years of age, with NO underlying conditions, who are critically ill and on ventilators in a London hospital.

So no, it's not just the elderly it affects.

We can talk as much as we like about figures being manipulated by the media and the government but images like the ones I have just seen on BBC news tell the real truth.

Let me put this into a personal perspective. I am a retired nurse who has worked in ITU. I have never seen previously fit and healthy 30 year old patients on a ventilator critically ill with a virus from a worldwide pandemic.

It's good to see some level headed discussion, not many places on the net where opposing opinions don't end up in chaos 👍

Thank you and well said @Cleoriff .

I hope the vast majority of people take heed and take the necessary precautions by abiding by the rules, wash their hands regularly, keep safe, stay at home, and wear a mask if and when going out on essential local journeys.

I was /still am fond of a good conspiracy theory and during the first lockdown was wondering what all the fuss was about

I've seen my daughter-in-law struck down along with four of her friends after a cosmetics (wine tasting) party attended by twelve people

Not all were tested positive but the ones who were, were affected quite badly. My family was in quarantine for the mandatory 14 days, as was then

I myself was hospitalised with suspected Covid which turned out to be pneumonia but I was initially put in a Covid ward  and saw young and older men afflicted

I didn't get Covid by the way (although I suspect I did in Thailand in December when I ended up poorly in hospital) (This was before the world saw it as a pandemic)

Maybe I'm now immune?

My paramedic son has obviously seen his fair share of this up close

What I do take exception to is the massaging of figures for government miss-use

One instance he told me about was a poor guy, not too long ago, obviously depressed with the whole furlough scheme and worried about providing for his family

He was diagnosed positive and hanged himself the day after leaving a wife and young daughter

This was recorded on the death certificate as Covid related

Death within 28 days of a positive test definitely needs to be revised as a way of recording the figures

But this disease is definitely a killer and I'm all for even tougher measures being implemented until we are sure the various vaccines work

Re the diagnosis of Covid 19 on death certificates is something I mentioned weeks ago on this thread @jonsie

Many times it is NOT the cause of death at all!

A good way to stoke the fires tho. Maybe one day with an FOI request we might actually find out the real figures.
