The BBC have announced that two patients in the UK have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

No further details have been given other than they are both members of the same family and are receiving specialist NHS care.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51325192

At present, 83 Britons and 27 foreign nationals are flying back to the UK from Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the outbreak.

The flight is due to land at RAF Brize Norton at 13:30 GMT.

The UK passengers will then be taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral and quarantined for two weeks.

Anyone else concerned about the number of vaccines in the pipeline and the race to get them out there?

With the billions of dollars at stake obviously speed seems to be more of a necessity than the desire to beat this awful disease

I'm worried that the haste to produce vaccines may well give even more problems to us and the next generation. I just worry that test results may well be massaged and profits being put before health

One such Chinese (of course...!) vaccine which is being tested in Brazil has led to severe health problems and testing has been halted.

China and Russia, along with the US and of course the UK are all now producing vaccines and I wonder if this is now tantamount to a competition.

Also, what is the point of a 5 day break of quarantine at Christmas when the 'think-tanks' of government are giving with one hand and warning on the other hand of punishing us by imposing a further one month of quarantine in January?

Only hours before Pfizer released details of their supposed vaccine, the Pfizer boss made millions selling his shares. Now why would he do that if the vaccine was any good?

To add to that, It sent the price of shares in other similar stocks crashing, wiping out the fortunes of others in the process.

These vultures continue make money off the sick and the vulnerable and it boils my *bleep*

Happiness is no longer a cigar called Hamlet 🤣

Actually, this whole situation is turning the stockmarket on its head - oil down from eye-watering prices to more manageable, albeit still expensive, prices (£280 for 500litres of home heating oil in Jan, £130 for it last week).

Just a shame so much money is being thrown at companies that heretofore had never seen a facemask or worn practical PPE, to provide (defective?) PPE at elevated prices...

Re Pfizer, is the risk of being vaccinated more or less preferable than getting COVID-19? (money grabbing top execs aside, for the moment)

Re vaccination @pgn I wouldn't rush to be the 'first to the buffet'. It's down to the individual I feel. Not just a question of age, its also has to be considered in terms of pre-disposing medical conditions.

A scenario to consider..if an elderly person has a condition such as a life limiting illness and leaves their home rarely... having the vaccine is not going to change their lifestyle at all.

They won't suddenly start going out and painting the town red will they? clown

It all another lottery.
Which one is best
which one will we get
Will we all be getting a different vaccine depending on which middleman gets an obscene bung to whatever 'contact' he met briefly at some random after dinner party?
