Is anyone going to be affected by this?

It seems a strange decision but people can always side load the apk.

Generally WhatsApp disable old versions of their apps so if they don't update the app side loading won't be an option.
I guess it's indicative of the low numbers of BB users these days and the changebto android is for new BB's.

I can understand them not wanting to divert resources to it if the user base has dropped to less then 1% of the total but its gota be frustrating for people like me who use it all the time!
