According to latest news published in Reuters....

Apple edges out Samsung in global smartphone sales

Apple's smartphones sales jumped about 49 percent in the fourth quarter, according to Gartner. In contrast, Samsung, the market dominator since 2011, recorded a nearly 12 percent fall.

Besides losing market share to the costlier iPhones, the Korean company has been battling low-cost Chinese vendors such as Xiaomi and Huawei.

Let's see what happens when the S6 and S6 edge releases in the middle of April?

I doubt the people at Samsung are very worried.

I doubt it too.  If it's just a measure of units sold, does it make any sense to compare between manufacturers at all?

I think Reuters were probably more interested in telling us about Apple's profit ie

The company reported a profit of $18 billion for the period, the biggest ever reported by a public company, according to S&P analyst Howard Silverblatt.

Either way, as this figures were released for analyis in December, it's obvious that Apple would show up better as the iPhones went on the market in September...
