I use them at work to print out prototypes instead of just sending an autocad file.
I toyed with the idea of starting an online business selling "grown up stuff" that could be just printed off after the buyer purchases the file to download.
Was gonna call it intimate discretions and would require very little input from myself.
Unfortunately the end products from most 3d printers is still too rough to be viable at the present time.

Seriously now 3D printing as a major medical breakthrough. A team in the US have developed a 3D printer which replicates human tissue by working with biological materials. The team hope their work could one day lead to a world in which transplants are no longer necessary to repair damaged organs.
