He's brilliant at what he does. I don't believe in magic but I do love watching the impossible.

I think the fact it's not real makes magic even more impressive @jonsie ! The fact they can pull off the seemingly impossible with sight of hand and misdirection is amazing!

Have you ever had the chance to see magic close up?

I saw someone similar in New York a few years ago. He was just a street magician but he was amazing. No idea of his name though

There is another in Pattaya too but his act is just slight of hand and nowhere near as good as the real magicians like David Blane.

@Martin-O2

Thank you so much for the info. I would so love to go if I was well enough.

David broke the mould with his street magic. As he said "no smoke, no mirrors". Forget the theatrics of a certain other "magician", to me David renewed the interest of the general public, on the streets, in magic.

When he came to London for his Above The Below endurance, I ran a thread on a forum for Channel 4 and had the privilege of meeting his then girlfriend. I have always had a keen interest in his brand of magic and knew how do some basic street magic and in front of David in the perspex box performed a very simple trick. I will always remember his girlfriend saying to me "Look", pointing up at David suspended above. I looked and David gave me a "thumbs up" for my silly little trick to a member of the public.

Personally I find him very weird and not someone I can take to at all. Yes his magic is clever but he has a zilch personality.

I watched an interview with him and Eamonn Holmes some years ago. David Blaine sat there throughout  saying hardly a word and just holding up a hand with an eye drawn on his palm.

I would far rather watch Dynamo who seems very down to earth and a brilliant magician. Certainly far less ego than David Blaine.

Sounds really cool @jonsie ! I've not had the opportunity to see any live or close up magic but would definitely be interested.

That's awesome @Mi-Amigo ! He obviously appreciated the effort as he would have started off with basic tricks.

He's certainly a bit odd @Cleoriff ! Not the typical performer at all. I'm a big fan of Dynamo too.

Sorry @Cleoriff  we are going to have to agree to disagree on this.

As to the Eamonn Holmes interview, David had just done 40 days living on just water and was his first appearance after the medical check-up and was "sending up" Eamonn, but most people didn`t get it.

As for Dynamo, sorry but I think he is over-rated. I know [and that is not boasting or a google search] how he did the walking on the Thames and riding along on the side of the bus. A far better magician, in my opinion, is Troy. I cannot work out how he does some of his magic. But will agree that Dynamo is down to earth and got into magic as a way to overcome bullying and for that I admire him. Also he has said that David Blaine was an influence on him. slight_smile Handshake

@Mi-Amigo

I know David Blaine had just come to the studio after completing one of his long lasting, never ending stunts. Whether he was winding Eamonn up or not, he should never have agreed to the interview.

No-one 'got it' at all....Ego got in the way of giving a decent interview.

I don't think Dynamo is over-rated at all.  His shows and street magic continue to astound a lot of people

He is down to earth (as said) and nice to hear his grandfather had a great influence in teaching him his very first magic.

I know how he did the 'Walking on the Thames' illusion....but that's what it was, an illusion tongue_winking

His shows, where he travelled the world, blending in with the crowd, creating street magic in poor villages and then illusions at famous landmarks was spectacular. He has no ego and doesn't see himself as any type of celebrity. For me, there lies the difference between the two.

Another magician/illusionist I like and admire is Chris Angel. Pretty mind blowing stuff...

@Cleoriff

I agree with you - the magic is an illusion. To me, it strecthes our concept of what is believable. The most frequently asked question of any street magician is "how did you do that?" As long as these performers continue to entertain and keep street magic alive, so be it.

I do share your appreciation of Chris Angel, another who broke the mould of the old stage magic, which I find boring and would go so far as to say that I would rather see the likes of Dynamo any day of the week than David Copperfield, who, in my opinion is one with a mega-ego and a fame-seeker.
