I have a Sony Xperia XZ2 and am thinking of updating to the new Xperia 5 II (as it doesn't look like Sony will produce a new compact phone any time soon - shame!!).

But I have an external memory card with many thousands of songs on it in my phone. These have been playlisted into a series of playlists on the phone. Does anyone know how to transfer these playlists from the old phone to the new one? Last time I changed phone I had to redo all the playlists again. That was quite a pain. So, without being able to transfer the playlists,  I am not going to be in any hurry to udate that's for sure.

No progress at all I am afraid. I am still unable to find where my music playlists are stored on my Sony Xperia.

The playlists are stored inside the media database in data/data.. but you won't see any files unless rooted.
The best way (only way I can see) is to backup the playlists using an app such as
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.desaxed.playlistsync
And checking if the playlist restore works before wiping the old device.
I believe, that in backing up the app data, Google cloud "should" also backup the playlists stored in the media database.

Didn't work I am afraid as that software cant back up and restore playlists held on memory cards.

So still stuck I am afraid, which is frustrating as I really want a new Xperia 5 II, but can't until I sort this.
