SIM card and new phone

I want to keep my current contract with O2 as I like the deal I have. I am due for an upgrade but can't find anything that matches this deal for the phone I want. Can I keep my contract, buy a phone elsewhere and just put my current SIM card into a new phone?  In other words, will it work, if that's not a daft question?

Thanks.

Hi @L66

Yes, you can do that as long as the phone is unlocked or on O2 network.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

@utasz25

You can't keep the same tariff if upgrading to a new phone.

You must buy a phone outright as @L66 is doing if you want to keep the same tariff.
